Chronopost renews its commitments to ADEME and aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 26% by 2027

Our Markets 27 January 2026

Chronopost announces the renewal of its commitments to ADEME through the CO2 target and EVcom charters for the period 2025-2027. This structuring initiative is part of the company’s overall decarbonisation strategy, which aims to achieve Net Zero by 2040.

Chronopost, a pioneer in decarbonisation in transport, renews its commitments.

For several years, ADEME has been pursuing a comprehensive approach to developing synergies between transport players in favor of sustainable development. This is illustrated in particular by two initiatives: CO2 target and EVcom. The former aims to support transporters in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while EVcom helps freight forwarders to work with their partners to protect the environment.

Chronopost has been working alongside ADEME since 2009 and was one of the first signatories of the CO2 target charter. This new three-year commitment to the CO2 target and EVcom initiatives marks the continuation of a proactive and structured approach, in a context where public initiatives are evolving but where charters continue to exist on a voluntary basis, with a recognized methodological framework.

For each of these charters, Chronopost is committed to reducing its CO₂ emissions by 20% (CO2 target) for its own medium-sized clean vehicles and by 26% (EVcom) for its own medium-sized clean vehicles and its partners' vehicles (compared to 2024).

For Chronopost, these charters are a guarantee of credibility and transparency, particularly for its French customers, who are keen to rely on measured and verified commitments.

"The renewal of our commitments to ADEME reflects our desire to measure, manage, and accelerate our decarbonization trajectory. The CO2 target and EVcom charters provide us with a recognized framework for structuring our actions, complementing our SBTi commitment at the group level. It is an essential lever for strengthening the confidence of our customers and partners, while actively preparing for the transport of tomorrow," said Mickaël Cartron, Chronopost CSR Manager.

In In parallel with these French initiatives, Chronopost is pursuing its decarbonisation pathway in line with the Geopost’s SBTi-validated ambition to reach Net Zero by 2040. This dual commitment allows the company to address the expectations of its French customers while aligning with a more global and more ambitious international framework.

Concrete actions and measurable results

For several years, Chronopost has been deploying large-scale operational solutions to achieve its objectives by the end of 2025:

On the last mile:

  • 1,660 low-emission vehicles in circulation (electric, bicycles, etc.)
  • Continuous deployment of new low-emission vehicles throughout the country

On transportation (main source of emissions):

  • 26.8 million kilometers traveled in low-carbon vehicles for transportation and hub collection
  • Gradual transition of heavy goods vehicles and commercial vehicles to low-emission solutions

Chronopost is also working to optimize delivery routes to reduce the number of kilometers traveled and to produce renewable energy at its sites via photovoltaic power plants.

Preparing for the transport of tomorrow

Chronopost is also working on innovation projects, including the development of electric heavy goods vehicles for long distances, in order to offer credible alternatives to traditional engines.

Among the challenges ahead are:

  • the deployment of sufficient charging infrastructure,
  • the availability and cost of biofuels,
  • the potential role of hydrogen, which is currently more focused on industry than transportation.

Chronopost confirms its commitment to continuing this momentum beyond 2027, in a logical of continuous improvement and voluntary sustainable commitment.
