Celebrating 25 Years of Pickup: From Local Vision to European Leadership
Business & Markets 10 December 2025
As 2025 draws to a close, we look back on a milestone that shaped out-of-home delivery: Pickup’s 25th anniversary.
Twenty-five years ago, Pickup was born from a bold idea: what if every neighbourhood shop could become a parcel delivery point? That vision has grown into France’s leading out-of-home delivery network, and a key player in the transformation of parcel logistics across Europe.
A Quarter Century of Proximity and Transformation
Since its founding in 2000, Pickup has reshaped the way parcels are delivered and collected. With over 17,000 parcel shops and 5,500 lockers across France, the network offers unmatched convenience to millions of consumers. From bustling cities to remote villages, Pickup ensures that a delivery point is always nearby.
Beyond logistics, Pickup’s model strengthens local economies, supports small businesses, and fosters community connections. These values resonate deeply with Geopost’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable commerce.
Pioneering Out-of-Home Delivery
Innovation has always been part of Pickup’s DNA. From the first digitalised parcel shop in Nanterre (Paris region) in 2002 to the launch of automated lockers in 2014, Pickup has embraced a “test & learn” mindset. Its latest breakthrough, the Fresh multi-service locker1 combines parcel collection, click & collect, and refrigerated storage - offering a glimpse into the future of urban logistics.
This capacity to anticipate and adapt has made Pickup a reference in the out-of-home delivery market, now growing rapidly across Europe.
A Key Lever for Geopost
Pickup’s growth is not just a success story: it’s a strategic lever. As part of Geopost since 2009, Pickup plays a key role in our ambitious roadmap, helping us build Europe’s densest out-of-home delivery network. In 2023, we celebrated our 100,000th Pickup point in Europe, and by 2025, that number has reached 150,000 parcel shops and lockers across Europe, with 28 countries fully connected for cross-border OOH deliveries2.
This expansion reflects the growing consumer demand for flexible and convenient delivery options. According to our latest E-shopper Barometer3, 46% of European online shoppers now prefer out-of-home delivery, a trend Pickup is perfectly positioned to serve.
A Responsible and Connected Model
Pickup supports new forms of commerce like C2C and cross-border delivery, while contributing to the reduction of last-mile emissions. Its model connects e-commerce with local communities, offering a responsible alternative to traditional delivery - one that’s more flexible, more accessible, and more in tune with everyday life.
In line with Geopost’s Net Zero 2040 ambition, Pickup points help consolidate deliveries, reducing the environmental impact of e-commerce. On top of that, sustainable innovations are being introduced: in 2023, Pickup became the first player to launch a locker model powered by solar energy, reducing energy consumption tenfold compared to a standard locker.
Looking Ahead
As Pickup turns 25, we’re celebrating more than a milestone - we’re celebrating a vision that continues to evolve. With the support of Geopost and its partners, Pickup will keep innovating, expanding, and adapting to meet the changing needs of consumers, retailers, and communities.
