Chronopost, the leading French player in the express delivery of parcels under 30 kilos, chose to install its new new hub in the North of Paris on the SEGRO Logistics Park in Aulnay-sous-Bois. A strategic location for the express carrier that strengthens its territorial network with the opening of this 4th hub in the region.
A strategic position for Chronopost
Built on a 5.5-hectare site North of Aulnay-sous-Bois, the new Chronopost hub in Northern Paris is ideally located close to the airport and several motorways (A1, A3 and A104) that provides quick access to Northern and Eastern Paris, as well as the 90 Chronopost depots spread across the region.
"One of Chronopost's particular strengths is its network in France. We invest several million euros every year to expand and modernise our network, with the sole objective of providing our customers with the most fluid parcel-delivery service possible," says Martin Piechowski, CEO of Chronopost.
A site with a vibrant activity and well established in the region
The site operates from midday to 7am seven days a week. A total of 160 people work on the site each day. Thirty new jobs have already been created and the site is continuing to recruit.
The building has an operations area of 10,000m2, with 100 loading and unloading platforms, some 1,000m2 of offices and 600m2 of cold rooms for handling the dry, fresh and frozen food products for the Chronofresh service offer.
In addition to its function as a hub, the site also has a distribution depot, which makes the last-mile deliveries for between 7,500 and 9,000 parcels a day, broken down into sixty delivery rounds.
A new hub with state-of-the-art technology
The latest mechanised systems have been installed on the site. This state-of-the art equipment means it takes just 4 minutes to process a parcel, from the moment it arrives in the hub to its departure in the delivery vehicle. This technical feat enables the hub to handle 130,000 to 150,000 parcels a day. As Nicolas Simon, the Director of the Northern Paris hub, points out: "Due to its size and parcel-processing capacity, this new industrial equipment will enable us to deal with all future peaks in activity and guarantee a high-quality service for all our customers.”
A total of 500 surveillance cameras deployed across the site guarantee the traceability of parcels. A scanner registers and photographs the parcels on 5 sides and measures their volume and weight to facilitate their processing by our mechanised system.
