SEUR inaugurates a locker in Madrid dedicated to the pick-up of temperature-controlled products

  • This is a pilot project located in the ABC Serrano shopping center in Madrid.
  • SEUR's Pickup network offers its customers more than 5,000 delivery points, including convenience stores and lockers, for collecting orders in a sustainable and flexible way.

SEUR, the leading express delivery company in Spain, is launching a pilot project with SEUR frío, its temperature-controlled express delivery division. It includes setting up a special locker for this type of refrigerated products in the ABC Serrano shopping center in Madrid.

This locker has 18 boxes and allows users to easily pick up their orders requiring cold storage and with time flexibility. In addition, it is a sustainable solution, since this type of locker not only reduces the number of failed trips, but also reduces by 63% the CO2 emissions associated with this type of ecommerce-focused service[1].

SEUR frío, created in 2002, is the company's temperature-controlled (between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius) express transport solution. In recent years, it has experienced exponential growth; in fact, in 2022 it has increased its turnover by 23% due to the expansion of e-commerce in the fresh food segment. According to the E-shopper barometer of Geopost, the group to which SEUR belongs, 4 out of 10 Spanish online shoppers admit to having placed orders for fresh food and beverages since January. A figure that reflects that this type of service meets consumers' current needs.

In addition, SEUR frío is the only temperature-controlled transport solution in Spain to achieve the renowned ISO 23412 certification from AENOR. This seal recognizes the company's excellence in the management of temperature-controlled transport of orders containing products that are sensitive to thermal changes. In addition, to ensure this quality, SEUR has invested more than one million euros in implementing an innovative system based on the Internet of Things (IoT). In this way, temperature traceability is guaranteed from the moment of pickup to delivery with more than 2,000 measurement devices with NB-IoT technology that are installed in all refrigerated goods loading units.

According to Miguel Ángel García, Head of Points of Sale at SEUR,

"with this initiative we are trying to boost the e-commerce segment of fresh food, such as meat, fish and cheese, among others, and also to offer consumers an affordable, sustainable and flexible option, as they will be able to have their products whenever and however they want, always preserving the cold chain".

A solution belonging to the Out of Home modality

This pilot project is also part of the so-called Out of Home (OOH) solutions, allowing consumers to pick up their orders at any time of the day, even on weekends. In this sense, SEUR offers its customers more than 5,000 Pickup points, including convenience stores and lockers, and does so under the premise of prioritizing customer convenience and satisfaction. In fact, SEUR's commitment is to continue increasing this network until it reaches 8,000 points in 2024, which will include 1,500 lockers distributed throughout Spain.

The Pickup network is also expanding its international reach thanks to Geopost. Recently, the European reference logistics group to which SEUR belongs announced that it has more than 100,000 pickup points throughout Europe.
