  • The online food market in Italy is worth €4.8 billion (+17%)
  • Opportunity for producers to grow with e-commerce
  • Operational six days a week, with a choice of time slots and doorstep delivery

BRT focuses on freshness with BRT Fresh, the new delivery service for chilled food products to be rolled out across Italy. Introducing the first operator specialising in cold chain management.

BRT Fresh has launched in Milan, Rome, and Padua, by the end of 2023, it will also be extended to the branches in Bologna and Turin. The second year of the service launch will cover the main Italian cities.

The food sector is a cornerstone of Geopost’s growth strategy, which aims to become European leader in temperature-controlled parcel delivery, a segment set to grow by 9% per year over the next 5 years.

In Italy, chilled products represent 50% of all online food purchases: a market worth €4.8 billion in 2022, up +17% on the previous year (Source: the eCommerce B2c Observatory at the Politecnico di Milano). Within this market, BRT is bidding to become the leading Italian operator, supported by its extensive network and the expertise of Chronofresh, a Geopost operator in France specialising in refrigerated food product delivery. Working in synergy with its own network will enable BRT to enter the market with an innovative service for producers who choose BRT Fresh for delivering their chilled food products.

The service developed for Italy includes delivery six days a week (with same-day delivery for local orders), the option to select a time slot, and doorstep delivery. The cold chain is constantly monitored by sensors and integrated technology, which detect any variation, ensuring temperatures are kept between 0 and 4 °C.

BRT Fresh will also use an advanced delivery notification system, which will minimise holding times and vehicle movements.

This service will be supported by investments in cutting-edge modular and movable cold storage, located in company branches. The last mile will be covered by refrigerated vans or using specially made insulated and temperature-controlled containers.

"In an increasingly connected world with ever-changing consumption patterns, our commitment is to ensure that temperature-sensitive food products reach their destination in optimal conditions. With this new service, BRT is ready to offer a quality shipping experience, ensuring the ideal temperature throughout the distribution chain -

explains Simone Vicentini,  BRT Chief Business Development Officer -

BRT fresh is an innovation that goes beyond logistics, it will allow the creation of new business opportunities for many companies in the food sector, regardless of their size, enabling them to reinvent the way they propose their excellence directly to consumers and in new markets."
