DPD Poland celebrates delivery of millionth parcel with cargo bike fleet

DPD Poland is successively expanding its cargo bike fleet, which currently numbers more than 80 vehicles. With its help, more than one million parcels have already been delivered. The ceremonial handover of the symbolic millionth parcel to the recipient took place at the end of October in Poznań.

Freight bicycles as the future of logistics

Cargo bikes are a fleet operating at DPD Pickup City Branches, which are distribution centres in the implementation of DPD Poland's low-emission strategy. The cargo bikes, of which the company currently has 80, are an excellent alternative to cars - particularly in densely built-up areas or business zones excluded from car traffic.

"Cargo bikes are an important part of our operational strategy and the NET-ZERO 2040 goal. The development of the cargo bike fleet at DPD Pickup City Branches is not accidental - the facilities are located in the very centres of the largest Polish cities, where both the high level of urbanisation and the requirements of clean transport zones within the cities favour precisely the development of this means of transport. This means that we will continue to develop last-mile logistics in large agglomerations, including on the basis of cargo bicycles." -

comments Maciej Głowacki, Member of the Board, Chief Operating Officer of DPD Poland.

"It is worth mentioning that as part of the bicycle network we are also developing the concept of Green DPD Pickup City Branches, i.e. points serviced by a 100 percent low-emission fleet - both on the line sorting office - branch, using electric cars, and branch - end customer - with the cargo bikes just mentioned. This allows us to meet our strategic objectives in terms of sustainable city logistics, as well as striving for the ambitious goal of achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2040. -

adds Marek Weremijewicz, Regional Director at DPD Poland

The first million behind us

DPD Poland has reason to celebrate - the company has already delivered more than one million parcels using electric cargo bikes. The handover of the special millionth parcel took place in Poznań from the hands of Bartosz Woźniczko, Head of Poznań 1 Branch. The lucky recipient received a model of a DPD cargo bike and a joint commemorative photo was taken. The meeting was also an opportunity to talk about DPD Poland and sustainable logistics, including the development of a low-emission car fleet and cargo bikes.

"Deliveries made by cargo bikes arouse curiosity and positive emotions among city dwellers, as they continue to be an unusual and surprising sight, despite the fact that our fleet, which is the largest in Poland, already has 80 bikes. By the end of the year, we plan to invest further and increase the fleet to over 100 vehicles. The millionth parcel is an important symbolic moment for us, which signifies our gaining unique practical experience and achieving the full operational efficiency that our customers expect from us." -

Magdalena Chojnacka, Regional Director at DPD Poland, adds.

Cargo bike fleet - how did it start?

The project, initially developed as a pilot in Wrocław with only 5 bikes, has been operating as a fully effective and functional component of DPD's logistics platform since May 2022.

"DPD Polska's cargo bike fleet is a concept operating in 14 of the largest Polish cities, making us the leader in the development of this form of delivery. We are delighted that in such a short time we have managed to design, improve and, most importantly, permanently implement such an ambitious and important project." -

comments Adam Bilewicz, Regional Bike Network Development Coordinator at DPD Poland.

"It is worth adding that this is only the beginning on the road to fully sustainable, low-carbon city logistics. We are already finalising further orders for cargo bikes, working on their further technical improvements and including more cities on the map of Poland in their area of operation." -

Artur Jop, Regional Bike Network Development Coordinator at DPD Poland, concludes.
